ACTIVE SCHOOL WEEK
Here are the details for Active School Week.
PLEASE CLICK ON EACH OF THE 4 PAGES TO FULLY VIEW!
Underneath is a letter about next week and ending the school year for you to read.
I hope you have had a good week learning all about many different ways of keeping safe. Don’t forget to send on your poster if you designed and made one. You should have completed your workbooks by now also which is fantastic – I’m sure it feels great to have finished those and you should be very proud of your hard work this year! I’m very proud of you too!
Next week is our final week and we are going with an ‘Active Schools Week’ theme. There will be a certificate provided on Friday to those who manage to earn 100 points from various exercise activities. And officially you have no workbook tasks to complete – Yippee!!
On Monday, you are invited to come to the school to collect your End of Year Report Card and Booklist for next year at your allocated time (Ms. Power has sent an email/text to you with this information already) Just as exciting as those, you will also find out who your teacher will be in September!!!
We would kindly ask you to return the rental books that you have been using. These are as follows:
Starlight Reading Skills Book
My Read at Home Book
Under the Hawthorn Tree Novel
Any School Library Books you may have…
For Active Schools Week, I have attached a PDF file with ALL of the suggested activities suitable for you to do (and the information is below also!)
I would like you to earn at least 20 points per day, so that’s 4 activities worth 5 points each per day. You should keep a record of what you’ve done and EMAIL it to me on Friday morning in order to receive your certificate.
I look forward to seeing how you get on and sending out the certificates on Friday to those who earn 100 points.
Stay safe, and have a great week.
Hello again everyone!
Hope you are keeping well and have corrected your work from last week. Remember to send on any interesting work you have completed or want to show me, especially creative pieces. For the Kahoot Quizzes, please use your own names so that I see your fantastic scores and work 🙂
I have set up a Padlet to showcase some of your wonderful work and projects that you’ve been working on at home. You can find it at the following link: https://padlet.com/mrdarrenmoynihan/z8ct62vpabed7cih
Please ask your parents to email your creations to firstname.lastname@example.org and I will add them to our Padlet. You can check out your classmates work there too!
It will also be listed in the new Display Area of the Distance Learning section of our school website http://www.ballyduffns.com
Expected Set Work – Monday 4th April – Friday 8th May

My Read @ Home – Unit 29 – Pages 113+ 114*
The Twins & Valentina Tereshkova. You should remember Valentina’s story from the start of Starlight in September. Read and answer the questions as we always have for homework. Remember your capital letters, full stops and detailed answers.
Starlight – NARRATIVE WRITING
This week, we will change our Starlight routine to revisit a writing genre that we learning about before Halloween. This is a great chance for you to show your creativity and writing skills. I’d like you to work through both activities F and G in Units 14a and 14b. Work through each section in the order they are in the book. It’s broken up into manageable chunks. On Pg 163 a ‘Sensory Mind Map’ is mentioned… remember our mind map is like a sun diagram (A circle in the middle with lines coming out from the circle with pieces of information at the end of each line – you’ve done several of these throughout the year.) You will also receive the PDF / Powerpoint that I used to help teach Narrative writing to the children in the first term, it may be useful to refresh their memories.
Réalta Litriú – Aonad 31 – Bainis (Wedding) – Lch 91 – 93
Please go to http://www.gillexplore.ie/products and follow the drop down menus by selecting Primary Titles, Irish, then 4th Class Level, you will be brought to the website we use in class. Go to Unit 31 to play the same Interactive Whiteboard Activity we would be using in class this week.
Sheet Music available on the website, play a few times a week to keep developing your skills and fluency
Tables – Focus on ‘Mixed Multiplication’
Please spend some time playing the Mixed Multiplication section on Hit the Button to develop your recall skills in this area. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Also, if you check out the Tables Expert D section on Gill Explore there’s LOADS of interactive whiteboard activities for you to use on a tablet or phone.
Mental Maths – Unit 34 (Mon – Friday)
Operation Maths – Unit 22 – CHANCE
We have touched upon Chance throughout the year in our Mental Maths so you should already have a basic understanding of the topic. I’m including a PDF of a slideshow I would use in Class to introduce this topic. Please read through it with your child to give them a start. It is a nice straight forward topic without the need for calculations, however there is a lot of language involved so your child may need support with reading and understanding.
